"Josie has changed me into someone who sings to her child, enjoys the silliness of songs, and is a believer in the power of music." Toronto Parent
I came upon Music Together after my children were too old for the program, and I was kicking myself for not having discovered it earlier. Luckily, having been raised in a home where music was revered and singing happened spontaneously and in every situation, from lunch time to long car rides, and having trained professionally as a musical theatre artist (Sheridan College, High Honours), I naturally and easily managed to create a home where music was a part of our everyday life. Consequently, my children have grown into joyful music-makers themselves!
When I found Music Together in Toronto, I resonated strongly with the program's philosophy; the idea that all children are musical, and that the parent/caregiver music model is essential to a child's music development. During my training, I discovered that not all households are naturally musical as mine was, and that sadly, many children today are not developing their innate musicality. I therefore relished the prospect of teaching families the joy of music making at home, and helping parents and caregivers to foster and support their child's musical journey. Since completing my Music Together training in 2007, I have been doing just that with more wonderful families than I can count!
In the fall of 2013, the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ awarded me the Music Together Certification Level l status for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy and parent education.
I am thrilled to be entering my 13th year teaching the phenomenal Music Together program!
Time sure flies when you love what you do!
